Baidu Receives Commercial Operation Permit for Driverless Ride-Hailing Service in Shenzhen

On June 16, according to Hong Kong media, Baidu said it has received a commercial operation permit for a fully driverless taxi hailing service in Shenzhen. In addition, Baidu plans to launch another 200 driverless cabs for operation in 2023.

Under the new commercial license, Baidu's Apollo Go driverless cabs will be allowed to operate within a 188-square-kilometer area of Shenzhen from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Users can easily use the Apollo Go app or applet, as well as platforms such as Baidu Maps and Baidu App. Baidu said its driverless cabs are now authorized to "provide hailing services without a safety operator in the vehicle," making Shenzhen the fourth city in China to offer driverless services, following Wuhan, Chongqing and Beijing.
